Re: Truck shopping RULES!!!
Just a thought on cold starts.
When nothing else will start around here my 81 will still start. Example the wifes FI jeep wont start if its not plugged in and the temp is -15C but yet my 81 will start unplugged in -30C. Normally everything is plugged in but we lost power once. Thats when my trucks motor was stock. Im not sure if the new modified motor would start under those conditions. |

Re: Truck shopping RULES!!!
As far as cold starts are concerned, FI bit me in the butt more than once. If you crank one cold with a flat battery, failing cables or overdue for a tune up they can flood quite easily. Often by the time you realize it's flooded, you've got a crankcase full of gas washing the cylinder walls dry. The engine at that point won't turn fast enough to start. One morning a couple winters ago, it happened to both of our vehicles. I missed a day of work and had to trailer my Geo and my wife's pickup to my brother's garage for oil change, new plugs while they warmed up in the garage.
The control that carburation affords the operator on cold mornings is priceless. |
