I'm trying to figure out this rearend thing. I've surfed the net and find nothing but conflict on which works best. I have a Dana-60 OPEN, 30 spline in my 71' C20. I take it to the drag strip only to compete with myself to see if I can make it run better each time. "TRACTION" is a major problem and two tires grabbing are better than one. I'm trying to find out what can be done to my rearend to make both tires bite and not bang and clang when I drive on the street. One article says this brand will work and then another says it won't. Most articles talk about great traction off road not pavement. What have you guys done?

I always thought that the stock posi unit was a good choice. I have one in my 1/2 ton burb and can't get the tires to spin, even when holding the brakes..... I think is an Eaton. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

Eaton has a new electric locker that you can turn off for a nice ride and turn on when you need it. A locker can be a real danger on snow and ice, so it is nice to be able to turn it off.

Put in a spool for strip only.
Use a positraction (1/2 ton) or PowrLok (Dana 60).
If you're not beating on it and have tires smaller than about 33", a Lockrite in your open carrier is a cheap and fairly good option, and did I already mention its cheap?

got an auburn posi in mine, pops like crazy driving in parking lots, but its only got 1000 miles on it. and i like to now its back there.

I have a detriot locker. I have around 3000 miles on it now since November. I love it. It pops every once in a while when I either pull away from curbs or turn corners, but not usually. Best for LWB trucks.

If you want a lockrite locker, I think I have the piece of crap I blew up somewhere that you can have. If you are taking your truck to the drags or smoking the tires then you will just blow it up like I did. There are a few people on this board that have them and like them. There are a few that have bought them, blew them up and had to buy a real posi unit. I would highly recommend spending the money on an Eaton or an Auburn the first time. Ask some people who didn't listen and spent $300 to $400 just to blow it up. They aren’t worth the heartache. In my opinion that company has made a very unsafe product that will eventually cause some people to die in an accident. Mine almost did!

With a street driven truck that only sees light strip time I would suggest a limited slip carrier (posi). These are quiet on the street, easy on the driveline and work well.
Let us know what your set up and numbers are and how the limited slip helps.
