Did all 69's have functional side markers?

I remember reading that some 68's didn't, but what about '69? I took the sidemarkers off my '69 Custom/10 today to see why they weren't working and there is no wiring to any of them. I didn't crawl under and really inspect the harnesses, but at a glance it doesn't look like they were ever any there.

Re: Did all 69's have functional side markers?

my '69 GMC didn't have any bulbs or lights, rather they were just reflectors. and on my '69 K20, i don't really remember if they were lights or not, but for some reason i don't think they were, as i don't remember pulling wires or anyting when i removed the fenders.

hope that helps!

Re: Did all 69's have functional side markers?

Great! thanks for the help. My truck has deluxe markers, so they must have been added when it was restored in 1990. I'll get the wiring from '71 GMC parts truck and make them functional.

Re: Did all 69's have functional side markers?

In '68 side reflectors were Federally mandated.
In '69 GM started offering them lighted as an option.
In '70 Federal rules changed again and lighted side markers were required.

That said, my K5 did not have lighted markers (they actually did not have sockets for the bulbs) but I am converting them since I needed all new reflectors and the only ones you can buy have open sockets for the light assemblies.

Re: Did all 69's have functional side markers?

Starting in 68, if it was a cab chassis with daul rear wheels, it was required to have the clearnace lamps on the roof, and side markers on all four corners.
In 68 and 69, the side markers were reflectors, but could be optionaed as lights.
In reality, 68 was the first year for federally mandated lights... but GM pulled a fast one. just like the rear view mirror inside the cab, it was required in 69 per fed guidelines, yet, was still an option untill 70.

Re: Did all 69's have functional side markers?

Mine were just reflectors originally when I bought it. Now I bought some new deluxe side markers & made them funtional by running wires & using white 194 led bulbs.

Re: Did all 69's have functional side markers?

Tri pro...that is odd. in mid to late 69 when they posted the info on the 70, they were listed as having sidemarkers standard.
Very interesting. At what plant was yours built?
