2" drop & tire rub!?.
I finally finished my front disc conversion (2" drop spindles) on my '70 C-10. When I go over a bump, my front right tire rubs.
I'm running 255/60/15's (27" tall) all around. Anyone else running similar tires & having / not having similar problems?

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
I'm guessing its hitting the fender/inner fender well.

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
Hmm, that's not an unusual size tire. I'm running 245/60/15's with 2.5" drop spindles and I'm not close anywhere. I know there are a lot of lowered trucks running 255's.
How wide are your rims, and is the offset normal, or are they pretty deep? You might try some plain ol' masking tape run around the inside lip of the fender (and wherever else you think it might be rubbing) and go for a drive and look at the tape to see if you can tell where it is hitting. The tape should have some scuff marks wherever they hit.

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
I have drop spindles 2.5 inch and drop coils on my 67. I had 17" rims originally with this set up but it was bad. In my neighborhood which is a newer area great streets and all I was rubbing frame and wheel wells. I went with 20" rims which raised the truck up. But even now when I hit dips in roads going semi fast it rubbs wheel wells. If I had to do it again I would go with spindles that accept disc brakes with NO DROP AT ALL. here is my current set up pic.

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
I have a 4" drop up front and was running 275 wide tires on an 8" rim. I didn't get any rubbing at all- ever. I've now got 245's on the same rim just for appearances.

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
I'm thinking that if I had to do it again, I'd go stock height.
I'm running 10" wide rims front & back. About 5.5" backspace & 4.5" on the front side. Glock 35, Great idea on the masking tape!

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
I can only guess at this point that the 10" wide rims on the front are the culprit. There are a ton of trucks running around with drop spindles, and spindles and drop springs, that have never had a problem. That's why I am guessing the 10" rims may have the tire out too far.

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
you can use a spacer to possible solve this problem I have two quarter inch spacers on rear of mine, that is if its rubbing on inside of fender well.

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
Um, wouldn't that just push them farther into the fender?? Might work if the rub was occurring when making a turn, but it sounds like it happens just when he hits a bump.

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
if its rubbing on the inner fender towards the framerails then a spacer sounds like it would work but if its hitting the inside of the fender then it would make it worse.

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
Too much back space, with the 10-inch wheel width.
When I did my conversion, using ECE 2.5-inch dropped spindles, I reinstalled the 8-inch wide wheels I had been running. The disc conversion created a wider track width in the front and the 255-70's would contact the inner lip of the front fenders. I changed them to a 15x7, same size tire, and solve my problem.

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
I'll definately check on that.
Thanks everyone for all the good help. Hopefully a thinner rim will fix the problem. I'm really hoping to go with a taller tire, something like 255/70 instead of 255/60's. John

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
It`s the 10" rims with the deeper dish. The wide track look gave way to lower stance/8" max. front rims. Some question how to keep rear 10" from rubbing.I`ve seen up to 295s work out back on 10s.I like 10s out back, but desided to keep the combo square to keep rotation possible.Mine`s getting built to travel.

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
I'm getting an alignment today, that may help some.
What do you think about 235/75x25 on 15x7's or 30x9.5x15 on 15x7? Am i wasting my time? Anyone see any problems with 31x10.5x15's in back on either 15x7's or 15x10's?

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
FYI, I think i found the problem. The inner fender on the right side doesn't fit quite right. I remember having difficulties when putting the fenders back on after paint.
I think the P.O. replaced the inner fender w/ the wrong one. It looks right, but the holes to the outer fender don't line up right.

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
That might be a big part but my guess is w/10" front wheels, you're still going to rub.
For reference, I had 15x6.5" ralleys w/215-75/15's @ 27.5" tall w/2.5" drop spindles & 1-coil cut from the original stock springs & rarely buzzed (only on large dips @ speed).

Re: 2" drop & tire rub!?.
I have 10 inch wide rims all around, and I beleive the drop is 2 inches. I do not have this problem. Mine are:
Front tires are 255 60 15 and the rears are 275 60 15's. |

I am running the hot rod trim rings on my wheels....which trim rings are you running on yours? I couldn't picture in my mind, the way that they would look.
