How do clean a paint gun?

I am getting ready to do my first small auto paint job (a door) for practcie. I am reading things but to my surprise I didn't find any cleaning instruction for gravity feeder paint gun after using the gun. I have a small paint gun set which I got as a gift and doesn't really have any good instruction with it.
Thanks

Re: How do clean a paint gun?

Do you mean pour paint tinner in it and spray out at the end? or just use brushes and brush it from outside?

Re: How do clean a paint gun?

as soon as your done spraying pour out leftover paint, put 1/2 of a gun full of cheap laquer thinner and spray it all through the gun until there is no residue comming out of gun say on a piece of cardboard or something, then take tip off gun and with a small brush dip it in thinner and clean tip and body of gun. always clean it up right after shooting paint .

Re: How do clean a paint gun?

The gun should have come with tools to take it apart but if not i am guessing you have some tools. When you buy the paint ask the guy for some lac thinner. spray the thinner through the gun and then take the zozzle cover and the nozzle off and the needle should be left. Use pieces of rags or brushes to get inside the gun. You can soak the nozzle, nozzle cover, and the paint cup in a ice cream pail will some of that lac thinner. If the cup on your gun is plastic you might just want to wipe it out with a rag instead of soak it. Que tips soaked in the thinner work really good for getting in smaller spaces.

But if you don't have a budget you can get a paint gun cleaner.

P.S. Wear gloves with that lac thinner especially if you have a cut on your hand, IT BURNS, its almost like gas

Re: How do clean a paint gun?

yeah laquer thinner not paint thinner, paint thinner will just give you a n oily mess and prolly mess up the next thing you paint.
