Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Nice "HD-TD". I wonder why I never painted my lifter covers flat black? Looks cool. The chromed Chevy script valve cover is a real keeper. HEI for L6 -- you got it all goin', pal. Keep up the good work.
What carb is that on the Cliffy intake? Almost looks like a Q-Jet.

Yep its a Q-jet not sure if I'm gonna run it or use an old AFB of an small buick I got
I've actually been thinkin about paintin the side covers a cast aluminum color, (same color as the valve covers on my Cummins)

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
I wonder what CFM that Q-jet has? I know GM Brazil has a Quadrajet L6 intake, but they're running almost pure alcohol down there, and you have to burn twice as much to get the same power as gas. If you look at the air/fuel charts a 292 @ WOT ideally needs 400 CFM. 390 is closest, but after 25 years I've had it with my Holley 8007. I now run the Edelbrock 1404, 500 CFM clone of the old Carter AFB. The AFB design with vacuum secondary only draws as much mixture as the engine vacuum demands, so a 500 isn't too big. But it does run rich. It would be interesting to see what you get with the Q-jet.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
I think the Q jet I got is 725 cfm, I"m not sure on the cfm on the afb I got but it came off a I think 215 all aluminum v8 Buick or Olds like what they used in a F85
I've ran both of these carbs on my last 292 and the AFB did seem to run a little better

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
I'd imagine that's because the Q-Jet was way over-carbed for that motor. 725 is pretty mad for a little inliner.
From what I've experienced, the two standard carbs I've had on the truck so far were 650s. |

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Pontiac used a Q-jet on their ohc 250 engine in the 1st gen Firebird. There's at least 2 people now on the board that have used a Q-jet on their 250. I was going to try it on my '67 but never made the time to do it.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Could be the Q-jet also has vacuum secondaries, so the engine only demands what it needs...? I have little experience with them, all bad, but I guess back in the day with full corporate support, they worked OK. The Re-mans you get from Checker Auto and the like all suck.
Pulltill-- Carter used to make a 400 CFM AFB. [It's not commercially viable for Edelbrock to go that small now.] Can you lift the numbers from the front passenger-side "foot"? Trenz -- Is that a Yorx A/C compressor powering a set of triple airhorns? You are one mad, bad and dangerous dude.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Here's mine.
I have a rebuilt engine and am having hell getting the exhaust manifold to seal after the first cylinder at the bottom. I am also curious if the exhaust preheat valve could be sticking and causing additional back preasure. It is not sticking, but what if I wired it open? The first picture is at rest with the manifold warm, the second the spring is under slight preasure to hold in that postion. I have a really quiet muffler on it, so I expect I have some back preasure anyway. I put the second gasket on and it did not seal at all, looking for ideas. I thought I read that you must put the intake and exhaust on together but not bolted up, tighten everything, then tighten the preheat cavity. Also looking for a tuning schematic for the 1BBL carbs if you might know where to find one. Mike CUSTOMAL@FLASH.NET

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Would you mind posting a few more pics of your setup? Also is this in your '70 or your '67?
Any overall shots of your truck? What can I say... I am intrigued by your truck!

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Here are my build sites.
I have 2) 67s, one 2x4 and one 4x4. If you have questions let me know. It is easier for me to send you there than convert the pictures back to a format that the site can handle. If you want more detail let me know. I can email them. Not too much on the 70 292. We are not planning to restore it, but it is a daily driver and we are getting kind of fond of it....... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=289840 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=1#post2826812

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Those threads will be fine. If I run into any questions, I will be sure to ask. I checked out the '67 and it is truly amazing what you've done with it.
Thanks for posting those links, and get ready for a few questions!
