Instal headers from above???
I have an engine soon to instal in a K truck, front clip, fenders off. The headers are the long tube Hedman. Without the starter on and the spark plugs out, can the headers drop in from the top. ??? Any other methods?

Re: Instal headers from above???
some headers can be installed from the top some cant, if your pulling the engine to drop in a new one, lay the headers in the engine compartment and tie them up off to the sides out of the way, then drop the new engine in.

You'll want that starter to be installed BEFORE you put in the headers.

Got it. Maybe instal the starter on the floor and then tie off headers and instal engine. I wonder how this will work with SM465 and 205 transfer goin in also????

Re: Instal headers from above???
Starters a pain no matter which way you go. I installed the engine with the headers and starter mounted and it was a real PITA to get the starter wires on. When I pulled the engine I took the headers out from the top but I had to drop the starter and the oil filter to do it.

Re: Instal headers from above???
My full tubes in a 69 GMC 1/2 ton required the engine almost down on the motor mounts with a jack under the motor to squeeze it up a little then down a little. Then one side, then the other. These are made for our trucks but the sure don't act like it on install..........

Re: Instal headers from above???
Thats a Headman Long Tube on the shop floor that I removed today. I removed it from the bottom starter side and only had to remove the plugs. It's a real bear to get out and the starter is a real drag to install with headers in cause the wires are next to impossible to connect. In your situation I think I would try to work with installing the starter first then the header from the top.
esll.

Re: Instal headers from above???
Yup, I just removed my headers and went with stock ramhorns. Easier on the plugs and all around easier to work with for the minimal power gain.

Re: Instal headers from above???
What I will try is headers tied to side. Engine and tranny transfer goes in. Then starter. wire starter then bolt up headers.
Maybe???? |
