Tailgate ideas???

Hey guys,As of now i dont have a tailgate on my truck,so i am looking for something different to do.Wanted to see what some of you have done or thinking might be different.anyone with skins,custom work,anything?Pics would be great thanx........James

my uncle was going to build one himself, he was a carpenter so he took a small bowtie off of something and measured it and made it bigger some how and welded it together out of like 1/2 inch square tubing and was going ot put tubes or something on around it for the long things or somethin liek that all the farther he got on buildin it was the bowtie cuz he found a regular one.Just thought i would let ya know on somethin.

I am going to make the tailgate into a barn door style opening. it will be fully electronic and hinge at each end. Other than the gap in the center everything else will "appear" stock. I have got it all figured out. I just need to buy the parts and make it happen.

Now that sounds different,I cant wait to see some pics.Maybe i should just get a regular tailgate and put a skin on it as all of the tailgates i have seen are kind of pricey..............James

I saw in a magazine where they did an installation of a remote opener for a tailgate, that lets you open it partway to reduce the drag caused by keeping it closed while traveling down the highway, assuming you don't have a bed cover.

So, with that in mind, I have thought about getting an "unmarked" tailgate, install a flip kit to hide the handle inside, then install the remote opener to operate the tailgate electrically. With a tonneau cover, and a smooth tailgate, I'm thinking it would look kinda "trick", so to speak. Then, I thought that using the trim that is found at the bottom of the tailgate, at the location used for the upper moulding, so that each point on the tailgate would have a single piece of trim. In my opinion, that would provide continuity with the front of the truck, if you used a 71-72 grille with hidden parking lights behind the grille. Just my idea, but you asked.
