Lost My Keys!
So heres the situation, I need to "steal" my own truck, my 75 chevy has been sittin in the field for a long time and i lost the keys and i need to unlock the steering wheel so we can tow it home. Some PO long before i had the truck welded the steering wheel to the shaft because the threads were stripped. It has a non tilt, that i want to change anyhow, ive heard that you can smash the left side of the collumn and release the lock pin, does this really work?

Re: Lost My Keys!
It might be easier to replace the whole column ... no smashing involved.

Re: Lost My Keys!
If the steering wheel is locked into positon, why don't you just unbolt the steering column shaft from the steering gear. At least then you can manhandle it to a trailer, get it home and swap out the column with the tilt unit you found. At least that way, you aren't smashing the column.

Re: Lost My Keys!
I would not recommend the smashing either.

Re: Lost My Keys!
If you are just wanting to move it you and a buddy can grab ahold of the steering wheel, twist it, and break the lock inside so that u can move it.
