Re: Where do you keep your spare tire?

I keep mine in the bed covered up by a nice black vinyl tire cover which I bought at the local camper dealer for $15. looks nice. Can't use the stock location due to dual exhaust which goes out the back.

Re: Where do you keep your spare tire?

I keep an old bias-ply in the bed in the stock carrier. I did need to use it this last winter, and it is totally worthless. Now it is just show until I take the time and pay for a used unit.

Re: Where do you keep your spare tire?

In the corner of the barn HAHA

I have a stock carrier to install on dad's 71 GMC, we've only driven it three times since frame off resto (once to my wedding and then leaving my wedding reception), someone was either close by or following us so far. I have tow coverage, but a word of warning to you guys relying on tow coverage: be prepared to wait half a day for the tow truck- personal experience with work vehicle. No mechanical problems with dad's truck yet, other than 3 OTT linkage hung up a couple of times. Nothing major, which I figured, since truck only had 18k miles ( but never was garaged so paint was faded to bare metal in places and all rubber was SHOT).

Re: Where do you keep your spare tire?

These days it seems I keep my spare right above my belt line and for some reason it grows a little more each year!

Sure be nice if I could just put it someplace else!

boy the stepside guy's have this item in the bag !! if I ever have a stepside it will HAVE TO HAVE THE LEFT FENDER THAT IS CUT OUT FOR THE SPARE !!!!
I would not comprimize on this it would be MANDITORY!!
those are awsome !! I don't know for sure if the stepside bed's with the fender mounted spare had an extra hubcap on the spare or not but I would have to have one it would look cool !!

Re: Where do you keep your spare tire?

Stock location and I have a can of F-A-F behind it.It's aired up and I have an extra in the truck also.I have a factory jack and a cheapy mini floor jack.I also carry a toolset from Craftsman (in the blowmolded case)under the Optional Passenger seat.I also carry a cell phone and have tow coverage.I probably need to replace the tires since they have been on the truck about 8 years though they do have good tread.

Re: Where do you keep your spare tire?

I carry mine in the bed. I'm gonna go with some type of donut for space though. I just wouldn't feel right if I had to call someone for something as minor as a flat tire.

I've had 3 flats in the past 4 years. All three times I had somewhere to be and having a good spare saved me.

i have all ways carried a spare in every truck i have owned and i have 2 spares in the s10 the factory donut and a full size in the bed just dont like the idea of not being prepared if something goes wrong i also have a full set of tool that has saved my butt and other unprepared motorist on the side of the road that were just standing on the side of the road scratching there head wonder what they were going to do because of no cell service in the mountains and it was snowing my own personal experience is if it is going to happen it will happen to me so i am prepared for just about anything

Re: Where do you keep your spare tire?

Being prepared is where it is at. Over the years I have even had new tires go flat, steel belts and all. True a way to avoid having a flat is to always have good tires, but you still need a spare, jack and 4 way wrench in your vehicle. Anyone without this basic equipment is well, unprepared! I don't want to have to call the wife or girlfriend to be bailed out, like some of the ones will have to do without the basics. Guess what guys, you will never hear the end of it! Why open yourself up to such abuse! Besides the aired up spare in the bed, I have a new bottle jack and chrome 4 way wrench under the seat.

Re: Where do you keep your spare tire?

I thought it would be cool to cut out a section of the bed and put a wheel well in there upside down (against one of the bedsides) and mount it so the top of the tire is flush with the bed... problem is, the frame is right there on a stepside, might be cool for a fleetside??

I don't carry a spare, mostly because I don't even own a jack, except for the crappy one in my Z71

Re: Where do you keep your spare tire?

Laying in the bed with a nice plastic coated steel cable around it and locked to the tool box. If I took it out, I'd have a flat! Kinda like carrying an umbrella. Forget your umbrella, it pours!

Re: Where do you keep your spare tire?

Currently my spare tire kit is as follows, plug kit, bottle jack, cell phone with Georgia HERO (Highway Emergency Response Operator)404-635-6800(my tax dollars at work), and as last resort number of a wrecker company. For a trip farther than two hours I throw a 15" spare in the bed, would look funny if I ever needed it since there are 16"s on Ol Yeller, but I have found out that not many people have an 8-lug whell laying around.
