pics of bikini top, family cage, side panels & floor
Just about finished putting this ole Bucket back together this weekend. Took it all apart to install a family cage. Then decided might as well fix a few rust spots. So floors need painting again after all that, so might as well go ahead & do the spray in bed liner. Then decided to make some aluminum side panels for the rear. Also went ahead & cut up the softtop (that was missing hardware) & made a bikini top.
As the sticker on my rear bumper says "NEV-R-DONE" I think it all turned out pretty good! So we're finally almost ready to leave on Thursday to go Cruisin' the Coast!

Awesome work for a single weekend - Heck, I just cleaned 1/2 of my garage (and only half-assed at that)!!
Looks great Have you driven it around much with the new side panels in place? I'd like to do somthing similar, but was worried about the rattles and resonance of the metal panel. Have you seen any issues with that? Thanks, Herb |

Side panels are real quiet... no noise at all. But I was sure to put plenty of screws in it, and also used 3/16 thick alum. tread plate. The thinner the material the more it will try to resonate.

Side panels look great. I was thinking of doing the same. What did you use to cut the them and did you have to grind the edges to make them clean?

Re: pics of bikini top, family cage, side panels & floor
Just used a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade in it and sprayed alot of WD-40 while cutting. The WD is very important or you'll burn up several blades & not get a clean cut. I didn't have to grind the edges (FYI - alum. will trash a grinding wheel). However, I may still go back & file the top edge a little smoother because my little boy likes to climb in over the side.
