Factory disc brake options

I'm sure this has been addressed before ... and I'll apologize now, but ... I have a '68 drum-drum LWB. I've acquired a power brake booster, master cylinder, and prop valve. These after-market disc brake kits are a little over-priced IMHO ... high demand, yes ... over-priced, yes. Outside of lucking into a 6-lug '68 disc brake truck, what other factory options are there?

WARNING: The following question is going to be dumb ...

What is the difference between the '67-'72 front factory disc brake assemblies versus those from the 73-87(?)? Why can't one use the '73-'87 assemblies?

Once again, sorry if this has been hashed throught many times ... and sorry if my main question is blatantly obvious to everyone else.

Thanks,
Dave

Re: Factory disc brake options

The spindles, and steering components are different. The front crossmember will swap over complete, one hole has to be drilled. The tie rod,tie rod ends and idler/pitman have to be swapped.Or you can use the later spindles on orignal control arms if you use the right ball joints for the spindles. The tie rods etc. have to match the spindles. There is a lot more info than i can recall or type if you look in the FAQ's section.Try Krue's listing for easier searching.
6 Lug kits are available from many of the BB vendors. You can get just the disc/calaiper assembly's.
