454 Help!!!
Okay so we got the 454 out of the 87 chevy C30! the guy said the engine had about 60K miles so what sholud I do before drop it in my 72?? should I just clean it, change the gasktes, and drop it in place... rebuilt it to stock specs??? or put some good stuff in it!?? make it a performance?? I know i'll change it to carburator, put headers, aluminium intake, and is not going to have a catt!!! Aight, let me know what you guys think!!! sorry for the cell pictures, i didn't have the camera with me!! I'll do that next time~!~

Pretty open ended question........what kinda budget ya got to work with? I'd say do everything you can afford before putting it back in.
Depending on cylinder wear ya might get away with a re-ring, bearings, performance cam, aluminum manifold, etc....

I'm a minimalist...check the compression and leak down...if it is good put on a manifold and carb and run it for a while. Well...ok...if you are dying for that rough idle put in a cam.

Weiand has an Action Plus intake that is designed for those peanut port heads. That is what i used when I swapped in a 1989 C30's 454. I changed the cam and lifters and springs and the heads got a valve job - runs real strong and has torque way low which is great for my heavy K20.
You ought to really enjoy that motor!
