vin decode

Could somebody please decode the vin off my truck. I have tried a few on the net but I'm getting incomplete answers.
CCE242Z124089
Also, as it sits everything is matching, trim tag, SPL and the chassis number. Even found the paper in the back of my seat with all the options on it. How can I find out if I have the original engine in my truck??
Any help appreciated.

Re: vin decode

to check the engine, right above the water pump on the passenger side, is a flat spot with numbers stamped into it (you may have to do some scraping).

on that pad, the Large numbers will be the casting code, but there will also be a partial vin stamped there, which you can compare with the trucks vin.

remember, if the motor has been machined at some point, there is a chance have ground down that pad, which will make it impossible to verify for sure.

the casting code on the front and rear of the engine will at least tell you if the engine is the correct year.

good luck

Re: vin decode

I checked this out today and the stamped number doesn't match. I will post the number tomorrow with the block casting number. I know forsure it is a 402 from the casting number and I am an engine machinist and I've already striped and prepped this engine.

Re: vin decode

If it`s a 402 engine there`s a good chance it would be a`72.

Re: vin decode

Yeah, but will the engine number be exatly the same as the vin? I have seen some US blocks with 2 numbers on the deck surface. Tis block only has one. I will take a pic today.

Re: vin decode

Here is a site to decode suffix numbers. The suffix code stamped on the front of the block will be a two or three letter code such as TKA. That will tell you the year.
