Swapped beds / I think springs are no good!
I swapped out my old rotten wooden bed for a much more solid steel bed. I was cleaning everything off when I noticed my springs. One is cracked on the back eyeloop and the other is cracked on the front. I would assume that this is not normal and should be fixed before I drive it much.
Here are a few pictures I have many more if neccessary. If any one locally wants some pieces off of the long wood bed let me know. (I will not ship) and plan on scrapping/trashing it.

I dont know if 67-68 4wd rear springs are remade or not.You should be able to get some used ones though. It sucks that they are cracked, mine were so bad on my 71 before I lifted it when I undone the u bolts the springs fell into, they were the only things holding the spring back together. There was a crack right down the middle..

Re: Swapped beds / I think springs are no good!
I have not looked but it seems like all of the leaf springs I have seen are 69-72 or the newer models. What would I have to change in mounting locations and brackets to run a more common/available leaf spring? I thought someone told me that if I had the 69-72 brackets, drilled out mine and bolted them in place, that I could use the newer springs.

If you had 69-72 spring hangers, shackles, springs,u bolts,u bolt plates (different on 69-72) that should be all you need.I believe the spring perches are in the same spot, but I'm not for sure.I think the perches may be wider or narrower on the 69-72 axles though as I think I remember the width of the springs being different. You might ask in the 4wd section.
**I just looked and atleast LMC sells OE 67-68 rear springs Last edited by 1969k10stepside; 10-20-2007 at 11:56 PM. |
