Re: Please verify Differentals 72-3/4 4x4
Hello,
Started working on my 70 C-20 4X4 rear end. She only has 113K miles but the rear drums Look shot. From what I've read in this thread it looks hopeful that I can get new drums for her? Has anyone recently procured drums for this particular rear with 12" X 2" drums? I checked out this site and they claim to have them, pretty pricy but if its the only source then I guess I am gonna pay! LOL http://brakeperformance.com/site/brake_drums.php I only pulled the one side but it seems that they removed the E-Brake parts! I tried posting in the forsale section as it looked like one could post a WTB thread, but it wouldnt allow me to. ![]() I'd like to get a pair of drums and the E-Brake parts if anyone has them for sale or sitting around after switching to Disk brakes. ![]() Thanks for any help anyone can give. ![]() Frank

Re: Please verify Differentals 72-3/4 4x4
From what lmitted info I can find I believe that is an HO72. It has a bushing that sits opposite the pinion to prevent ring gear deflection. The HO52's do not have this bushing, but are othwise the same. As far as getting a detroit locker, the 14 bolt locker bolts in, you just have to use the 14 bolt axles. I have one in my 72 Blazer, and after a bit o trimming, I gained half an inch of ground clearance over the 12 bolt

Re: Please verify Differentals 72-3/4 4x4
remember after you take the drums off and that gear oil that runs out the axel hub... after you finish yr brake job you should tilt the rear end from side to side on a hill, to put that oil back out there to keep from burning up yr bearings

Re: Please verify Differentals 72-3/4 4x4
Man oh man; this is the info I've been lookign for!!! This is the exact axle I have and I just couldn't figure out what it was. My brotehr said it was a 1 ton but I couldn't find it! It's massive too so I didn't think it was just a GM 10 bolt. Great to hear the good and bacd, and my manual brakes are like a bench press; so it's good to know what I'm in for. Also, I belive mine is a locker; how rare is that?

Re: Please verify Differentals 72-3/4 4x4
Just got 2 brand new 12" x 2" drums for my HO52 from http://brakeperformance.com/site/brake_drums.php
Just an FYI in case anyone with a 3/4 ton 4 x 4 is interested in keeping their HO52 as original as possible. Frank
