Here are a couple of pic's of a set of Vette ram horns that I have. I hope this helps. These are big ($$$) bucks. Notice that there is no provision for a choke tube hole. These are fulie manifolds. The part # is the same for carb. and fulie manifolds. Carb. manifolds are not as expensive by a long shot and you can fill the hole. esll.

Re: manifolds or headers?
Just looked up the number. There for 67-68 283/307/327.
So how much does that matter for my engine, 350 |

Re: manifolds or headers?
I didn't know the Corvette ram horns were that different than the truck ones, other than the straight down vs. 45-degree exit. Can you show the vett & truck manifolds side-by side East Side?

Re: manifolds or headers?
Just saw this: "Copy and Paste"
If menory serves me corvette was the only one with 2 1/2" discharge, but they weren't angle dump. To get close to what you need and not sure of the discharge diameters. You need to find the ones with engines with most H/P #3855163 l/h-66-67 passenger, truck with 283, 327 #3872741 l/h-66-68 283,327 passenger #3896956 r/h-67-68 283,307,327 truck #3932469 l/h-69-70 350,400 passenger #3932473 l/h- 68-70307,350 passenger |

Re: manifolds or headers?
Just a quick install tip .... use brass nuts to install pipes to the stud bolts. The ones I used can be purchased through Zip Corvette Products and are twice as long as a regular nut. These are what the General used back in the day. You will avoid breaking the manifold stud hole trying to remove the nut as regular nuts can be a bear to get off after they have been on a while.
esll.

Re: manifolds or headers?
Guys,
What about using the rear-dump Camaro style exhaust manifolds? Will they clear everything? example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Exhau...item8069766315 |

Re: manifolds or headers?
After a little googling I'm not sure it would to be honest. (Not trying to sharp-shoot you here Aventur just thinking out loud, no disrespect intended
Look at this link, http://www.rjays.com/Collectables/engines-01.htm and click on the picture of the "1:6 Scale 1970 SS Camaro 350 engine" Now granted, that is a pic of the drivers side of the motor AND it's a model of the aforementioned motor. But take a look at where the oil filter is in relation to the exhaust manifold. Looking at that picture and thinking about how the starter hangs, I'm thinking that the manifold in question would either come out even with the bellhousing/block join or dead even with the "silver" part (beginning of nosecone section) of the starter. The only problem I could see would be for manual trucks as the Z bar would get in the way on the drivers side. But for automatics I am wondering if it would work, or would the exhaust pipe actually bang against the firewall? Which would give the term "firewall" a whole new not-nice meaning. Again I'm thinking aloud here and I'm trying to figure this out so I can order the right exhaust pieces myself. I've tried headers in the past and I agree with others here that they look great but I can't afford a set of Doug's or Sanderson's and I don't know what part number to look for the so-called "3/4 length Chevelle headers". I'm in the middle of an ordering frenzy for parts for the 71 as I'm finally in a position to do something with it. I'm doing a suspension rebuild, a brake system rebuild, new shocks, engine transplant, and a new exhaust system. Long story but the gist is that I found a cleaner, better optioned truck in a junkyard in Phoenix only after towing the 1971 from Texas that had lived for three years in a hayfield. The new 71 has a perfect steel bed, A/C, and a new rear end but had the stock exhaust and the original motor with a nice big shiny hole where the #3 rod went thru the block. So I'm pulling my engine and tranny (350/350TH) and putting them in the truck from the junkyard. Which is why I'm doing all the suspension and brake work. It's probably all fine as it sits suspension wise (I ain't gonna trust brakes from a junkyard truck, no way no how) , but it isn't going to be my daily driver so why not do it right instead of good enough for right now, right? I've had el-cheapo headers in the past, but used the correct gaskets (manifold gaskets at the head or good quality copper headers gaskets, and copper "crushable" collector gaskets) and didn't have a problem with leakage. I'm just sick of all the damned noise, and would like to be able to check/change sparkplugs without drawing blood. I would also like to use something other than the damned $4-a-pop Accel "header" plugs. Besides, IMHO, a SBC powered 67-72 Chevy truck with a good dual exhaust is just about the best sound there is, lol. Used to lull me to sleep when I was a wee one, just like the little kid in the new Volkswagon commercial. Sorry to hijack the thread everyone, BACK TO YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAM. Re: manifolds or headers?
i think thy would work fine. the starter is in the same place on the camaro and i belive the 73 and newer trucks used them aven with the manual trans. i see ne advantage to using them. i would stick with the rams horns and get the corvette ones if your going to spend alot of time running over 3500 rpms. if your not going for high rpm power but wanting the low end torque the truck ramhorns are the way to go they also keep the exuast farther from the lower firewall area where your feet are
