New wiring or not?
After reading the new wiring harness article in Classic Trucks, it got me thinking if I needed to replace my wiring harness, at least in the engine compartment. How do you know if it is time for new wiring harness?
Sure would look good. I am calling early Classics to find out the price of a new harness, that may make my thought easier. Any input would be great. |

Re: New wiring or not?
I decided to put in a new harness. The previous owner(s) hacked the entire harness. The old had spices, extra terminals and butt connectors everywhere.
Originally a straight 6 then a 350 - they just tapped everywhere - It was sick I chose a 20 circuit system from Rebel-wire.com It's a great system from front to back. PAID $165.00 Last year at the Turkey Rod Run in Daytona. Easy to install and marked every 6 inches. I also went to NAPA and purchased all new pig tails, i.e. steering column, headlight dimmer switch, ignition, head lights, parking lights and tail lights (most of these were in stock and very reasonable) Good Luck Harry

Re: New wiring or not?
attentiopn to detail patience ,skill and attention to detail as well as getting quality terminal ends, wires and wrapping materials and an understanding of basic electricity and about 95% of most harnesses can be saved at a fraction of the cost of a new harness

Re: New wiring or not?
I totally agree with cdowns... most of the aftermarket harness buisness is induced from fear of the unseen, and naturally, the ppl making the replacement harnesses, help p8ush this fear.
I know there's times and situations where a new harness is needed, but most of the time, some carefull cleaning and maybe learning a little about how it works, will save you lots of money, lots of time, and your vehicle will be just as safe if done right. |
