Tach Gage Cluster- What year do I have?
Does anyone know for sure what year this set is? I'm thinking that it has to be from a 78-79 since the 77 that I used to own had a mechanical oil pressure gage and this set has an electronic oil pressure gage and I believe that the 1980 and later kind of looked like the gages that I have in my 86.
I have been told that these will work in my 86, but of course will not be correct. I need to order a tach wiring harness from Brothers Trucks, but I need to find out what year these are so that I can order the right one. ...Joe

I think you nailed it on the 78-79 vintage. The script is right for the era and it's got an electric oil pressure gauge. I can't imagine the tach wiring harness being different for the other years as it's only got three wires to it.
I've got a tach cluster identical to yours and got it out of a 78.

I also concur on the 78-79 estimation. You don't *have* to use a harness. I made one using 16 gauge wire (12ga for the coil lead) and insulated terminals on the ends and it works just dandy.

Re: Tach Gage Cluster- What year do I have?
Thanks guys. The reason that I asked is that Brothers lists a harness for a 1978, and then a 79-80, and I'm not sure what the difference is between them since they seem to look the same to me.
Maybe the plug on the backside of the tach gage is different? That's why I posted a pic of the backside of mine. I could make my own like you say if need be, but I'd like to get the right harness that would just plug up if I can find out which of the two that I would need to order from Brothers. ...Joe http://www.brotherstrucks.com/products.asp?dept=748

It is a 78-79 cluster.
For the tach, all you need is a .250 female spade crimp-on connectors on the end of a wire to hook it up. There are 3 prongs in an L shap, ground, 12V and Coil.
