quick PS question

when i take the old pump off, drain it, remove it, etc. do i need to drain the steering knuckle? if so, how do i do this?

p.s. i had put brake fluid in there in a pinch so i think i need to drain it

you can get some of it out just by turning the stearing wheel. maybey somone else will have a better idea

Take low pressure hose loose and place in bucket. Crank up truck and turn the wheel until you need fluid. I would flush it out a few times then rehook line and fill it up.

I just did this a few weeks ago, because i got a new ps gearbox and they say to bleed the sytem whenever you get a new box or pump. What i did was disconnect the low pressure hose at the pump, plug the nipple on the pump and put the lp hose in a container. fill the pump full with good fluid and turn start the truck, but as soon as the truck starts, turn it off because in that quick second the pump spins fast enogh to drain the entire reservior of the pump. you do not want to work the pump without fluid in it, this will harm the pump. i have tried to disconnect the hei and crank the motor continuously but it did not spin the pump fast enough to push fluid. i would do it more than once like Andy says. fill it with new fluid and call it a day.
