Yellow on black CA license plates

Good news guys if you haven't aqlready heard. California has finally passed a bill allowing any truck 72 or older, and any passenger vehicle 69 or older to use the year of manufacture lisence plates. It used to be only 62 and older, The bad news, it doesn't go into effect untill Jul of 09, but at least we know it will be coming so dont get rid of your old yellow on black liscence plates. Check out this web page. http://www.totalcapitol.com/?bill_id=6072

SWEET! For once legislation passed that wont F* us over.

Quote:

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. Section 5004.1 of the Vehicle Code is amended to read:
5004.1. (a) An owner of any a
vehicle that is a 1962 1969 or older
model year vehicle or the owner of a commercial vehicle or a
pickup truck that is a 1972 or older model year may, after the
requirements for the registration of the vehicle have been
are complied with and with the
approval of the department, utilize license plates of this state with
the date of year corresponding to the model year date when the
vehicle was manufactured, if the model year date license plate is
legible and serviceable, as determined by the department, in lieu of
the license plates otherwise required by this code. The department
may consult with an organization of old car hobbyists in determining
whether the date of year of the license plate to be used corresponds
to the model year date when the vehicle was manufactured.

Re: Yellow on black CA lisence plates

Will they allow new plate to be printed in black and yellow? That would be sweet...although, I have a sinking feeling they won't.

My black and yellow plates were too rusted out to use.

It`s cool in one way and not in another. The way it`s been,if there`s a "black plate" on a vehicle it means the vehicle has been constantly registered since new and the tag is original to the vehicle. It was something a collector looked for. Now,it won`t mean anything.

Re: Yellow on black CA lisence plates

thats true about the collectors losing their value of it being registered since it was new, I never thought of that, but thats probably like 1% of truck owners that want black and yellow plates, now everyone can have them not just the lucky ones who found one or owned one that has been continuously registered. Overall I think its a good decision. And to the guy who found one on the bumper, I'm pretty sure the plates have to be inspected for serviceability by dmv when you register it and you have to have a set, not just the back plate, just fyi. later guys.

I assume this covers Blue plates as well, since they started coming out in 1970.

Re: Yellow on black CA lisence plates

I just posted recently about my just finding out about Missouri' laws and how in 1967 they only had one tag. I found one in about five minutes for $5. I thought Cali' always set the cool factor? I like the look of the old plates. I did find one on the bay with 67 in the #'s. I snagged this one from the local junk yard. really dirty but only slight 40 year old rust on edges. It is kinda cool to have a piece of history attached to a piece of history.

$75, and they wont ship to California.
Plates have to be clear in the computer. If its a number registered to something else, I am pretty sure that you can't re-register it to something else. That is the way it works with the black on yellow plates.
