Worthy of being a project?
Picked this truck up for cheap, origonaly planed on using some parts off of it. my question. Scrape it or build it? Thinking about fixing it, just to say I can, But will it cost too much? and YES its rough!
Im sure you all will have fun picking this truck apart, well what left of it. |

Would be good practice if you do all the repairs your self.If you have to pay someone, get another cab.

Im capabe of doing all the work myself. I dont realy have a budget yet. I want to get an idea of how much it will cost and if i can get the parts, any ideas about if that frame is saveable? The engine dose run, it will need work, eventualy I plan on change the engine and trans out. The floors seem pretty good in the middle, but as seen in the pics near the door and cab corners is realy bad.

here are some more pics of the door and the bottoms of the fenders, i think the fender are toast, I cant find anyone who makes a patch for the lowwer front of it. the doors i think would need a lower door skin and i belive I could buy the bottom 10in or so of the inner door.

Everything is replaceable and available in different qualities. Lots of work. Check with the board vendors.

I'm familiar with rust belt trucks... that's on the far end of shot. Looks like even the frame and A-arms have some pitting/scaling.
Might be a good candidate for a complete goodmark floor, but in all honestly, by the time you replace all the needed metal, figure in your time... you'd be better off hitting ebay and getting a truck from out west for 3 or 4K and driving/shipping it to ontario. *If you could find a good cab, it might be doable. This would be a good truck for a true "driver." Get it running good and who cares what it looks like? Just make sure the seatbelts don't pull through the floor.

replace the cab, lower it, paint some letters on the side and ride the wave of "shop truck projects"
Other than that - i dont think its worth your time -- it would take 3 times the effort to make a truck worthy of a show-n-shine than a cleaner one would Add up the cost of all the replacement panels , patch panels, etc. -- plus all your weldng supplies, flux, rod, gas, argon, etc., plus -- mmmmm---lets say $10.00 an hour in time (just to keep the number from getting out of hand) - and i'll bet you are over the 3 grand mark Now if you save what you would've spent on the truck for the next 6 months (hard to do- i know) - you'll have that 2 or 3 grand , maybe more. Oh, also, i might be able to get some bran-new 72 gmc fenders but i want to use my 68 grill. Im pretty srue this wont work, soo, I figgure I might beable to just use parts of the new fenders as patches for the old. I would feel bad to cut up the new ones, but I think the origonaly metal is better than new stuff.

72 GMC fenders are the same as 68 chevy fenders.
Trim holes won't be the same, but the fender its self is. |
