Re: trans to bell housing ???

Some guys who I really respect have told me that a thin spacer ring is order of the day there. It's critical that the crank and mainshaft centerlines are identical.

Re: trans to bell housing ???

Knowing that maniac, I'm sure he made one out of billet steel on a lathe and mill. He's way beyond me when it comes to this stuff.

Re: trans to bell housing ???

You can also use the input bearing retainer from a saginaw 3spd(68-up truck), or opt for a 67 or older truck bell to run the car trans....L

Re: trans to bell housing ???

It's that big cast iron front piece that fits into the bellhousing bore.

Re: trans to bell housing ???

just go get the right bell housing. I wouldn't run that tranny with all of that clearance in the bell. Bell housings are cheap.

Re: trans to bell housing ???

There is a gasket to replace, & a seal inside the collar. You will be wise to go ahead & replace the front bearing on the input shaft while you are in there. i have seen that front bearing let go & scatter the trans. When you pull the collar, you will see a snap ring on the input shaft.....remove that & carfully wiggle the bearing off. The shaft should stay with the trans, but will try to move foward. I would hold pressure rearward on the shaft to keep the shaft in place,& 4th gear syncro in its keys. Button it up & you are good to go. The truck bell(68 -up) has a 5 1/8" center hole, vs the 4 11/16" hole for the car , or the 67 & older truck. L
