Need opinions and pictures.
I'm slowly building a 67 SWB Chevy. I have been debating on putting a newer stepside bed or try to hunt down a SWB fleetside bed. I have the original floor and wheel wells off the truck. So I would have to get bedsides and the front. I'm trying to get it together without going completely broke. I think the newer bed would be the cheaper way to go but how bad would it hurt the resale of the truck? Anyone got thoughts, good or bad?
Thanks, Nick |

Re: Need opinions and pictures.
Personally I don't like the newer beds on our trucks. I also think it hurts the value if you ever want to sell it.

Re: Need opinions and pictures.
Thanks... I think I'll do it right... SWB Fleetside. I agree with the value issue. Not that I'm building a truck to sale but I want it to be worth what it should be. Thanks.

Re: Need opinions and pictures.
I have to add to that last post... There is one truck in particular with a newer style bed that I like.... Mike_Nutt's truck is awesome but he spent a lot of time modifying body lines on the newer style bed to make it look good... And it looks real good.

Re: Need opinions and pictures.
IMHO....
If you are going to keep the truck forever, say you are a property owner/landlord and it will be your repair truck...I say go with whatever is cheaper (cause it hits the bottom line). If the replacement pieces and labor are cheaper for the old style bed..go for it. If the new style bed can be had for cheap and fitted on rather easily...I say go for that option. If on the other hand you are going to fix the beast up to sell it and are selling to the purist market...then a proper style and year bed would be appropriate. Personally I like the stock bed. But if I were worried about the bottom line then it would be whatever is cheaper and functional. Tim

Re: Need opinions and pictures.
I get really confused about the value of our trucks!!!??? On the one hand some members are concerned about hurting the value of our trucks by doing certain mods to them. Then I read posts by members that come right out and say don't expect to get the value of what your truck is worth let alone make a profit! So what does it matter what you do as long as you like it as it would appear to be a losing proposition from the get go. I say build your truck the way you want and cruse, as it would appear that is the only satisfaction that there is to be had.
esll. PS: I don't believe this losing your shirt on a nice truck/car for a minute. Never have and never will. Most people that I know who build cars/trucks don't loose their shirts either in fact they double their money!! My builds always come in at less then what someone could build them for. So at the very least I know I'll get my money out of it on a bad day.

I agree, there is no book that covers the value of our trucks. There value is all in our hearts. Make it what you want. I've seen'm look both good and bad. But that's my two cents.

Re: Need opinions and pictures.
I had to buy a complete donor truck for my SWB. I payed 1100 for it (the only thing not completely rusted out was the bed, and I had to patch panel quite a bit of it). Be prepared to spend big bucks for a new or good condition SWB as there is a pretty high demand for em (mostly from folks like me doing a SWB conversion)
Completely worth it, but I go through phases where I wish I would have left it a LWB.

Re: Need opinions and pictures.
Keep checking the parts board. SWB stepsides have been showing up for $3-400 lately.
