Re: Parts Jobber - Rant

with my experiences, tie rod sleeves generally arent wear parts. someone replacing "everything" is generally replacing "every" wear part.

Yes I understand that....but. You know aswell as I that those adjusting sleeves sieze within the first 6 months of them being put into service. I have yet to see a set that aren't siezed solid, while doing alignments.

Agreed; the first thing to rust tight is the tie rod sleeves.

Re: Parts Jobber - Rant

up here in Canada, there is lots of salt to help in the siezing process........I have seen some where the heads of the bolts, and nuts are now round, if even existant still from the salt. It's amazing they don't snap off.....wait, seen that too

I have two on my bench you can have, then. It was cheaper to get the new ones, vice trying to soak and beat and then get mad. I probably could have saved them, but I have better things to do than growl at a stupid piece of metal.

^^^agreed..

The new ones, I coated in wheel bearing grease, both inside, and out.....so they shouldn't sieze up

Re: Parts Jobber - Rant

Mine spun right off, so I reused them. Of course, I live in central Texas...

I put them back together with anti-sieze. I use it on anything I want to be able to pull apart at some point in the future.

Re: Parts Jobber - Rant

OK, I was going to stay out of this discussion. I realize there are quite a few people behind the parts counter that are VERY good at what they do! but those few idiots do tend to leave an impression! a few weeks ago I needed to replace the tail pipe on my 79 Cadillac. I called local parts store and unfortunately got the new guy. I told him I needed a tail pipe for my car went through all the questions for the computer. Soon as we got through the questions he asks me "what part of the tail pipe do you need"
I say from the muffler to the bumper.
Him We won't have the o. e. muffler for your car.
Me "I don't need a muffler. I need the pipe behind the muffler"
Him "I'm sorry sir we do not have that in stock"
Me " I knew you wouldn't have it in stock. that is why I called so you could order it"
Him "I have no way of ordering that part"
Me " have you found the part number?"
Him What part do you need?
At this point I was getting annoyed. So I asked for someone else to assist me. this time I got Josh. Now Josh Is a good guy and can find most parts. I told him what I needed about 30 seconds later he told me there were 5 in the local warehouse and would be there in the morning! There are people that CAN'T LEARN! They should not be put on a parts desk! let them drive the delivery truck!

COOL !!!!! Let evolution take care of your pain. In most herds, the slow ones are culled out by predators and eliminated.
