New toy to play with 63 SWB GMC!
Just got back from a long day of towing. Started out doing 85 miles round trip to pick up a customers project then another 150 miles to get this. It is a 63 SWB GMC that I got from an instructor that I saw this week. It was his sons truck since he was 16 now 33 but due to some family things it had to go. I was asked if Inew anyone and it so happens that I did, ME Picked it up for $1500 and it is in very good shape with minimal rust in the door bottoms and kicks, nothing I havent done before. The full fate of this truck is not yet known but the plus side is my wife loves this body style and she already has a finished look for the truck. So being a smart man I guess I do know its fate
What is unknown as of now is exactly what suspension of Nates it will run but it will be low and fast. Thinking about a 6.0L that might get a few hair dryers added to it. Auto for sure with 20's and 22's. Here is the wifes finished ideas and if is mine as well. Gee that worked out well. I towed it with my 1/2 ton porject Low Buck and it did great. I did 235 miles today and got 12.6MPG. Thanks for looking, Kevin LFD Inc. |

Great score. you stole it. I'd say you got a bunch of "thumbs-up" going down the road with that tow-rig.

Thanks and I just read your build thread, love all the mods. I really like how both you and Fizz did the door tops and rail shave!

Re: New toy to play with 63 SWB GMC!
So after getting up at 4am for a bight to eat (my son not me) I started reading thru some of your build threads and found their are alot of great projects in the 60-66's. Now that just means I will need to step my game up a bit to stand out So after eating, reading it was time to watch some monster trucks but I guess I fell a sleep for a bit. I love these pic's
Well then I went out to start putting my 71 together so I can sell it and make room for my 63. While I was doing that I remembered the seller told me it was a new GM crate engine that he put in but he dropped a clip down the intake and did not know untill it was to late. So he took the engine to a local bay area engine shop and had them put in new pistons (KB's), vortec heads, a mild cam and roller rockers. I figured I was getting the sales pitch but figured why not take a quick look. So I poped off a valve cover (vortec heads) and found this. So maybe this deal just got a bit better. Kevin LFD Inc. Re: New toy to play with 63 SWB GMC!
Well I finished putting the 71 together as a roller with motor and trans so I spent a little bit of time on the 63 so I can get it out of the weather. I will not be starting on this untill I finish up "project Trazer" that just came back from media blasting yesterday. The epoxy is still a bit soft so another day or so and it should be ready to start jambing on it. It is a very cool project for a customer you all will need to check out over in the 69-72 blazer section. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=241695
Ok so back to the 63, I pulled the bed to better fit into my storage side of my shop along with alot of larger tools, benders and cutters I have. I was pleased to not find any rust or damage hiding behind the bed. I did find one thing that I am not sure about, the rear end! I think it might be a Dana 60 but I am not sure, maybe you all can help with the ID. Here are a few pics of castings I found. It looks like it was a bolt in but I am not sure. The WMS to WMS is 62 1/4" what are these trucks stock? If it is a 60 I think I will keep it and just get 5lug axels and disks. This way it will hold up to what ever I throw at it. Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: New toy to play with 63 SWB GMC!
Thanks I just have fun with it! Yes he did do my logo it is the one in my Avitar. I get crazy about cars/trucks in general and have a slight case of A.D.D when it comes to getting things done and staying on track But that is the price I pay for what I do. I also would offer you any help I could but you have Nate! Wanna share him?

Re: New toy to play with 63 SWB GMC!
I'll tell you what you can do to help the 60-66 crew out. I was working on this but everyone knows my 61 is on the back burner...
60-63 one-piece windows! The windows have to tilt back as they roll down to clear the A-Pillar. Don't let us down man. Take those vent windows out and take a look at how clean it will be I have some ideas if you think you want to go for it. |

Re: New toy to play with 63 SWB GMC!
...and don't worry about what I said before about the GMC hoods. It's only a minor difference (more than just signal shape). You'll see it when you park next to a Chevy. Some prefer it. Those GMC grilles definitely kick A$$ too.

This is very workable! It will clear at full drop from my extensive research Go ahead and send me over your thoughts (PM'd) on this and we can see what comes up. Their has to be a kit for this right or? I am also thinking a drip rail shave How-To or DVD Gee I have no idea why I don't sleep 3:31am
Any help on my rear end? Kevin LFD Inc. Last edited by Rokcrln; 11-28-2007 at 06:28 AM. |
