Front Grille

Ok heres wut Ive got

THe black grille shell was primered when I got it. PO screwed this thing up. I tried removing the primer with laquer thinner but it was going to take 4ever so i said screw it and painted it black with Dollar General spray paint. It looks better then the primer but still looks bad. I recently got my hands on a LOT stronger stuff. I was told it was airplane stripper. BUT. Were these pieces originaly chromed? or wuz it just shiny metal? Basically, is it possible to remove the original finish or wuz there one? Info would be great. I'd like to do it this weekend. THANKS

Re: Front Grille

Aircraft Stripper should work. Someone on the board used oven cleaner with decent results.

Here is a thread of someone who painted the grille with chrome paint and it turned out very nice:

Here's another good thread:

Re: Front Grille

The aluminum surround is hard anodized and must be stripped to raw then polished to get a shine.

Re: Front Grille

I am proud to report that the Airplane Stripper worked great. It practically melted the paint off the grille. My truck looks so retarded w/o the grill on it but I still have to go to school so oh well. It should be finished this weekend. Ill post up a pic of the after shot. I think im going to be happy with the results.
