HEI conversion

Hi guys. My buddy Bill is building a really nice 72 stepper, and asked me for help swapping the point distributor for an HEI, which he already has (in his barn). Any pointers on what wire to grab to power the coil? The cleanest neatest (proper) way to do this? I am not so good with wiring, and want to make sure I actually HELP him... Thanks for any pointers...

Use a 12 gauge wire, crimp on the appropriate ends. Connect in the fuse block at Ign. unfused. Use an in-line 30amp fuse. Connect the other end to the dizzy.
The area circled in yellow is the connection in the fuse block.

In my 66 c10 I just used the same ignition on wire that used to power the coil. Seems to work ok, been running for 3 years now with no problems. I once tried to put HEI in a 72 and found the firewall and cap had a space conflict. I didn't care about looks then and needed to get to work so used the hammer method to free up some space. Not recommended if you lose a motor mount though........nofords

in 67-72 years for sure the original coil 12 volt supply is a resistive wire and needs to be replaced with regular copper automotive wire. If you do not replace you willmost likely have voltage and ignition issues.

#12 wire is only good for 20 amps, I would reccomend using #10 with a 30 amp fuse.
