Alternator help
Hi y'all. I have a 1972 1/2 4x4 pick up. The PO I think converted the alternator over to a internal regulator. The reason why I say think is that the regulator on the radiator support is still hooked up to the regulator. My amp gage in the truck doesn't work but the truck is charging the battery and the truck runs fine. Any information would be welcome.

The amp gage does not work on a lot of 67-72 Chevy/GMC pickups or at least does not move a lot.
The trouble usually is because one or both of the short fuses located on the back side of the radiator support are blown. I have found the best thing to do is to install a volt-meter either in or below the dash. Danny - Southeast Missouri |

Well I found one of the small fuses and replace it. My gage sits over on the left side like its not charging. I have seen a few like you mentioned but those are stitting in the middle of the gage.

I did the swap out too, the old amp meter never really showed me anything so I added the volt meter also. I tells the real story. Just follow the above instructions and it will be fine. Add a volt meter also.

There are 2 fuses in rubber holders in the harness under the hood. If you replace these fuses it usually fixes the gauge. Sometimes they are corroded & need new holders.
