Rear End Swap???????????
I have a 70 Stepside with leaf springs. I have a 76 parts truck with 5 lug 12 bolt rear with leafs that I want to swap into my truck. Can I swap this rear end over without issues... Does anyone know the measurements of each rear end?

Re: Rear End Swap???????????
I did my sons 68 GMC many years ago. I used the old main leaf and the later other spring pack. He had a long bed. It was 24 years ago. Had a muncic 4 speed I think we used the old drive shaft. Aso changed out the front a arms and brakes. He still has it and is getting it ready to drive again. Hope this helps Can't remember every thing Was not that difficult to do.

Re: Rear End Swap???????????
you'll have to relocate one shock mount on the axle, and I *THINK* the spring mounting pars are the same... but that may be a cut off and weld on deal like the shock mount.
Since the wheels will be needing replaced, this won't matter so much, but the axle will be wider, be about 3/8 an inch on each side. If you have already purchaced rims, this could be an issue. If rims are still needed, then keep this in mind. |
