this is why I have an old truck
Had a bad windstorm last night and a tree fell in my back yard. Whipped out the saw and went to work. But how were we to get the wood out to the road? Can we put it in Todd's new truck? H#LL NO! Fire up the beater and load it up. Don't worry about scratching it, Don'tworry about overload. This is why I have an old truck!

Re: this is why I have an old truck
I've got to say that your truck looks too nice to load wood into it for a "dump" run.

Re: this is why I have an old truck
If you want that to be convincing as a "beater" you ought to take a 4 lb. hammer to the sides and get some rust going there too.
Seriously tho, yeah, nothing like having a work truck around.

Re: this is why I have an old truck
What a novel concept, use a truck for work.
I am like you , I like them nice, but I also have things to do.

Re: this is why I have an old truck
I would love to own a beater like yours. Although I am not afraid to load my new dually up with a load of wood or trash. Heck I would put it in the dually befoe I would put it in your classic.

Re: this is why I have an old truck
If a truck won't handle a load, it isn't a truck! It is a toy!

Re: this is why I have an old truck
I prefer to haul the nast stuff in a nasty, ugly pickup box trailer. Saves the beater, or even the nice ride from damage. And when the box is beat beyond usage, you can swap on another one. Or just drop the whole thing off for scrap & collect some coin, and spend $150 for another
It also gives me the option to unload it when I'm darn good & ready

Re: this is why I have an old truck
Good for you, using a truck as a truck. Trucks used to be work vehicles and did not have leather, power windows & door locks. My father in law thinks it should only be considered a truck after it has had a load of manure sitting in it for a week.
I have a Toyota MR2 that I cannot haul anything in and holds two people. What is the point in having a truck that is almost twice in length and weight if I cannot hold anything in it.

Re: this is why I have an old truck
Absolutely NO job is too difficult for someone else to do, and nothing to be hauled is so bad and/or messy that using someone else's truck isn't right.
If it was your tree, I guess I can understand him not wanting to haul it off, but if it was his tree.....I'd help him load it in his truck. If his tree fell in your yard.......I definately think his truck would be good enough to load with your help. My beater is for MY use....your "beater looks better than mine...
