Thumbs up It's time for a vote.....

Ok guys. Today my local Chevy dealer sent me all the info on the 50th aniv 2003 CORVETTE!
He said that they will only be getting 1 per dealer and I get the first choice. The problem is my wife.. She has a problem with me having so many toys and isn't willing to part with all that cash. I replied, you can get another job honey! Yes, my sofa is rather soft and great to sleep on, I shouldnt have put that lock on my bedroom door last year! Anyway, I need some support here on this matter. Remember, you only live once! Every vote will hopefully count!

It come with a special package or jsut some decals and stuff for '03? if it's got some phat power and great looks then it's worth a bit on the couch, heck i'd sleep in the vette !

The info I got showed that it had special wheels, alot of 50th badges everywhere and my guess is a $60k to $80k price tag. No info on the price yet. Everything in my profile is for sale except the 70 4x4 short bed. Im needing to get some FAST cash! I guess I shouldnt have just bought that new John Deere...... Hmmmmmmmm

It had better be a Z06. Those are supposed to come stock with 405 horsepower! If it is, I say do it. I would if I wasn't a poor college student.

I say go for it! I bought a 2001 corvette for my 30th birthday just because I could. Just to say you had one. Had fun with it for the summer, them got back into a truck that I really need and use, 2002 GMC 2500HD. Heck the corvette stickered for less than the truck I bought!!

Vehicles are frickin' cool! And a late-model Vette would be a dream car for me (note the term 'car' and not 'truck'). But, I would much rather have the 'human touch' right now. Wrenchin' makes me happy, and I live for it, but, goddamn dude, do you realize how lucky you are? You have a woman - she puts up with all your **** and vice-versa...hot car vs. someone who actually loves you...hmmmmmmm..........................

FWIW, Buying a "collectors" car may pay off, but not for at LEAST 20 years, and then only if you don't drive it at all. If it was my money, I'd buy a used 'vette. Two years ago model should save you 30% over new and you won't have to pay the upcharge for the 50th hype. If you've got to have a 50th, wait a couple of years and buy a used one. I used to see 40th anniversary 'vettes for sale used all the time. Worth no more than the regular car same year, but the ones that bought them new got boned. Besides, If Momma ain't happy, ain't NOBOBDY happy. For $60k bucks you can have a really nice mid-year Corvette ($30k) an ADDITIONAL $30k to spend on some of the toys you've already got, that's without taking into account interest which would make the $60k car cost you at least $80k. That's assuming you can get it for 60. All around BAD deal IMO.

I agree with with Mike C, buy an old vette, they are way cooler than any of the new stuff. If you get off the collector thing and buy one that is not number matching, you get a lot more bang for your buck, plus you won't mind making a few cool mods. Give me a 57. or any midyear or even a covertible up to 72, and I think the "cool factor" is a lot higher to start with, plus I think the older stuff will hold it's value better than any new "so called" collector stuff.

Wow! Tough question. I'm a toy guy too and it is hard to part with some to get another. Here is my opinion. Your gonna need to sell a few of the items on the list before you buy the new Vette! It looks like some of it you could part with without being to upset. Don't part with the new JD! I have a 4400 and love it. My new LX277 All Wheel Steer was delivered last night.

My only thoughts about Vettes (and I love them) is that you pay such a premium for them up front and then the bottom drops out of them for 20 years. Then they pick up and are priceless. Here is the real question. Do you plan to keep the car until it becomes a collector item? Do you understand that means garage space, moves, etc for probably 20 years? I would think you could just pass on the new one and buy one in mint condition in about 5 to 10 years that some guy thought the same thing as you are now for about half the money. I guess my vote would be to pass as much as that would kill me if I were in your shoes! Good Luck. I wish my income afforded me these kinds of decisions......

My vote........hang onto the cash! I like vettes also,but I think they are waaay overrated for the money. If that day comes that I just have to have one,I would get an older Vette........let somebody else take the beatin from the wifey&the wallet!!!!!!! 69

My first house was 24k. I just don't think it's 60k worth of cool, especially if you have to sell your other toys. What do you get? A spoiled @$$ car that you can't drive in the rain cuz it might get wet, You can't drive it to a ball game cuz some jealous bastard will key it, You can't drive it to the grocery store cuz A) anything bigger than a can of sardines won't fit B) It's a shopping cart magnet.

It's your choice, but if you have to sell all that other stuff to get it, then my vote is no. It's a bad trade.

I would pass on the 50th anniv. model and get a twin turbo Lingenfelter built Vette. Just my .02 cents on what I would do with 60K.

I would look at older Vettes. I think they are cooler, AND turn more heads! Older stuff ALWAYS turns more heads! Oh ya, a new one will turn heads for about a year or two, then it's just another 3 year old Vette.
Now a 68 or somthing! Now THAT will turn heads!

I'm with step67 on this one. Just htink of the kind of vette you could buy that is a couple years old and with that kind of money. That baby would have you crappin your pants everytime you played around with it. I know that buying something like that would be hard to justify but sometimes the women like to play too!

Give it time, restrain yourself, and new car fever will pass. The old vette recommendations are sound in my opinion, but hey, you've got the 80 model already. Keep the wife happy - what's she driving? Start feedin' her info on the SSR and give HER new car fever!

What a dilemma and what a list of toys!!!

I'm kinda torn on what advice I'd offer you.

I have a "collector" car but I didn't buy it for an investment of any kind. I bought it because I wanted to be one of the few that had one and because I loved it. I love driving it, cleaning it, and looking at in the garage even with the cover on. I love the looks it gets and because not many people have seen one or see them often, they always ask about it.

I was seriously interested in the 50th Anniversary Vette until I found out they had put off the introducion of the C6 until 03 or 04. I want a ZO6 C6 so I passed on the 50th. Maybe it's because I already have a collector's edition car. I dunno, it was pretty easy for me to tell the dealership to take my name off.

So my advice is this. If you want a collector's edition car, get it. You won't regret it. If you just want a new Vette, wait until the C6 comes out.

Go for an older vette... all these newer vehicles aren't worth the money and won't last half as long from *now* as the old ones.
