water, water every where
I started to take out the interior of the GMC to repair the floor pans in the cab. I was surprised to find a lot of water on the floor on the passenger side. Plus the water on the drivers side.
On the passenger side it's where your left foot would be. I'm thinking the water might be coming in through the ventilation system (not coolant though, like a heater core leaking). On the drivers side it's below the handle for the parking brake realease. Any ideas or experience on what to look for to stop it from leaking would be great. Thanks guys! |

Cowl. Every truck I've owned had leaking cowls.

rust in the cowl is a big one, another thing to consider is the windsheild frame..every truck ive seen always has rust in the same spots

You can remove the vent shutters and clean the accumulated trash out ie. rotten leaves pine needles etc. They're not draining properly.
Worst case: If your windshield frame is rusted through, you have some sheet metal work to do.

Remove the cowl (piece of sheet metal that has the wiper stalks sticking out), then remove the front fenders. In the area behind the fenders, in front of the area where the doors are hinged, is the portion that deteriorates when water, dirt, and leaves are allowed to accumulate. Get a plasma cutter, can opener, whatever, and open up to give you some access to the enclosed portion. At the bottom of the plenum, cut a hole big enough for a rat, or cat, or whatever gets in there to also get out.
The idea is to create a big enough hole that stuff will not be trapped. At the same time, you will be patching whatever is leaking water to the inside of the cab. Finally, like I am doing, "shave" the cowl and don't let any water get into the plenum. If it doesn't get into the plenum, it won't get into the cab. Then, pray it all works like you planned.....Murphy's Law will prevail and at the most inoportune times.
