Accelerator Linkage change 6 to 8.

I am changing engines, 6 cly to a V8. The accelerator pedal linkage on the firewall is different on my 6 to a V8 truck, the 6 cly has a cable system where the V8 truck has a linkage that goes thru the firewall. Do I need to change these out since I am putting the V8 in? I know they are mounted differently. The V8 pedal linkage is mounted on the engine side of the firewall where the 6 is mounted inside the cab which would require some fabrication.

Depends on the year of your truck. they went to the cable in 1971, prior years used the rod for both engines.

You just need to get a 8cyl cable. Its quite a job to change from one to the other.

I have swapped the inline for a 350 with a quadrajet in my previous 68. The only problem that ever happened was when the motor mount broke and would pull full throttle as engine lifted, ( left mount).

Re: Accelerator Linkage change 6 to 8.

richard, i went from a 6 to v8 in my 71 c10, used the existing 6 throttle cable, i used a 2 barrel rochestor but it should be just fine for a 4 barrel as well. i got a bracket from the junkyard to hold the end of the cable to the intake, you may have to get a new ball stud to srew on to your carb linkage depending on the carb and etc. most guys prefer the cable setup versus the rod setup. safer in my opinion. good luck
