I have not changed my body mounts....you may be able to use 67-72 but I am guessing.....the same guys I mentioned above used the 67-72 Steele Rubber tailgate/hatch kit for all the holes and plugs in the 60-66. I have not purchased the kit yet, but I have seen it and it looked perfect to me. Thanks Tony.....I will as there are never ending things I want to do

Very good looking Burb Protrash, I really like where you're going with this one. When do we get burnout pics?

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
WOW!! Cant believe its been a year, but I drove this around the 'hood a bit but had issues. Mothballed it until now as its finally nice to be outside.
Cheap Summit ministarter was manufactured wrong and ate my new flexplate. Still had brake issues...frame was coated in fluid. So, being this close to driving the 'burb I decided to start tackling this stuff. New brake line and fitting in the frame right at the level of the starter. Didnt have my kill switch on and about welded my line wrench to the brake line!! Dont know if I have it sealed up or not. I began seperating the engine and tranny, removing exhaust, etc. I have it just about apart and I need to slide the trans back and R&R the flexplate. It sucks going backwards, however spending the time to put stuff together correctly with all the same hardware saves a lot of time. Highly recommended!! Here are a couple pics of the new flexplate; got 5 bucks off cuz its grungy. And 5000lbs of truck about 2 feet in the air. I dont like to think about that when I'm under there....hope to get some updates of it rolling in the next month. Also, I used a starter for a '95 454 and they are tiny. Smaller than my ministarter. Plenty of clearance and weigh 10lbs.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
I can tell you the specs; max distance from flywheel is .100'' per their instructions. Mine was at .250'' (quarter inch). No way to adjust unless its disassembled and the billet block is milled down .15''. Dont use it unless you can have it milled. If you need a small starter use something from a '95 smallblock; they are tiny. My 454 starter wieghs 10lbs!!!

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Got the 'burb all back together and have driven it around quite a bit today. I also cleaned the drip rail and resealed it as all the seam sealer was gone and its a little rusty up there.
My starter works perfectly, brakes seem to be holding together and the trans is shifting so life is good!! Put a new serpentine belt on the 454 just for fun!! Just shot a pic with all three in the driveway.....now I can finally get to the '64 shorty..........

Burbs looking good Jeff. Good thing it broke now vs being out away from the house and costing you a tow bill.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Thanks guys; nice to hear from you Jason!! I actually got home from work and went out and knocked out the whole flexplate and put it back together. Here are some pics that I took of the flexplate and the engine and trans seperated. I'm sure a few of you out there have seen this angle before.
I may get this running by the weekend, who knows?? I'm still leaking brake fluid and now realize that it must be the original line I put in 1 1/2 years ago. I'll get it straight one of these times.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Thanks Dave......I did not feel like re-doing the flex plate but it turned out not being horrible. I spend time to get it right the first time and that starter was out of my control. However, I did learn about the stock starters from the newer engines and that was good. They are tiny and are geared low too.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
i know that you haven't posted on this for a while, but I had to say that I think you have an awesome truck here and I loved reading about your updates and improvements to it. I also love the fact that you put the big block in it! Hope you are able to cruise around in it this year a lot! Keep up the great work on your trucks!

I've done enough wrenching!! I want to drive them! I will be doing some sanding, however.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Started sanding the roof of the 'burb. Damn it's huge!!! I picked up some Werner aluminium platforms to stand on and reach the top of the truck. I looked into some new (old) body parts and have come up with a plan for prime/paint. I am working on this truck, and as I paint various parts, I will also get parts ready off the '64 shorty and paint them as well. Two pronged assault!! Here's a pic of the white dust.........

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Try a rag soaked in laquer thinner to remove the paint over spray.
I'm going to have go back and catch up on this one... Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Cool; I'll try it. I looked at my aluminum polish and it said not to use it on chrome. Thought about steel wool, too. Just dont want to scratch it up too badly.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Didnt have any thinner so after cyphering for a spell, I decided to use some rubbing compound and it worked. The chrome is still good so I used a razor knife to scrape the paint off like cleaning glass. Then I just rubbed the crap out of them and they polished up nicely.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Great progress and it is all looking good...seems we all know about those heavy pieces from Bondo... a lot of people adhere to the "fill it and mold it with Bondo" dent fixing idea.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Well, I dont watch sports so I went out and made some noise today. I have been sanding and sanding and have the roof of the 'burb good now. I am getting all the pieces ready so I can shoot primer on this and the '64 shorty. I jump back and forth and I'm really sore and tired.
Anyway, I patched my front fender. Patched the brace first as it was somewhat damaged. Didnt want to buy a new one so I went for it. Thin metal was a challenge but I got the brace stiffened up and painted the inside of the fender; then trimmed and welded my patch in place. Takes quite awhile of jumping around with the welder to fil it all in.......then sanded down the whole thing just to see what Im getting into for the bodywork. Put on a first coat of fiberglass and hung it in place while I cleaned up. Hope to have a bunch of progress next weekend. Cool to see all the new 'burbs here on the site!!!
