Need tranny education
Hello:
Would you give me some information about these kinds of manual transmissions: rebuilt 4 speed saginaw, a rebuilt Muncie 4 speed transmission, and a Borg-Warner T-5 with overdrive . Which one would you chose if you had option to pick one? Thanks

Depends on what you're putting it in and its intended use. I would not bolt a saginaw to anything over 300 fwhp.

probably the muncie, depending on which one it is. if the borg warner was a super T-10, then I would take that one.

Look at the prices on the rebuilds......from what i have seen, the Muncie commands a big price. its a good trans, but you can purchase a NEW T -10 fo just a little more, & have more options on ratios(check Summit or Jegs). now that saginaw trans is not a bad pc...IF you dont race it, or play "speedracer" from lite to lite. The biggest prob I see , is ratios.....a 4000 lb truck dont get with a 2.20 1st gear that the close ratio Muncie has, unless its running 4.10 or lower gears. You can get a 2.88 1st gear in a Borg Warner(Richmond) T- 10. The spacing is a little far, but it will walk you out of the hole quick with w 3.42-3.73 gear.....forget the T5, its absolute JUNK, unless all you do is cruise easy. Best of fun, crazyL
