68 cst questions

Looked at a 68 cst 396 a few days ago. I have some questions about some of the options, so I came to the experts.

The cab has the removeable hump, the guy said that big block trucks had that. Is that right?
The cab has roof marker lamps. Were they available in 68? The option sticker just says marker lamps, I cannot remember the option number.

The vin number on the option sticker is printed in darker ink than the rest of the letters on the sticker. Was that common? This is the second truck I have seen like that, and I was wondering if anyone else has looked at a sticker with the vin printed darker.

The truck has bucket seats with the small middle seat. What kind of brackets did those seats have? It looked like all three seats were mounted on a single bracket, but I did not look that close. What is correct?

The truck is a swb cst, fleetside with wood floor, buckets, tach, and 396.

Re: 68 cst questions

The buddy buckets in your truck are all mounted on one frame like a bench. I believe all high hump tunnels are removable, and your truck would be high hump with a BB. That sounds like a great truck, some people would kill for that combo. Do you have some pics?

Re: 68 cst questions

It sounds like the real deal. The bucket seats are on a one piece frame. I would think the marker lights could be correct, but not positive on that one. I recall seeing darker print on some 67-68 option stickers. I am not positive, but it sounds like it should be sitting at my house. Have any pics? Eric

Re: 68 cst questions

That sounds like a AWESOME truck, I agree with the other guys on everything. 67-68 option stickers had dark vins on some. And like Eric said I'm not sure on the marker lights either

Re: 68 cst questions

Thanks for the information guys. It sounds good to me. The truck is disassembled, I just wanted to check with some people that are more familiar with these trucks than I am.

The guy is going to sell me the truck, he has just lost interest in it. As soon as I get it I will post some pics.

The truck is a dark maroon with white top and a red interior. It does not have air, but it has ps, front sway bar, posi, chrome rear bumper.

I figured it was an unusual truck being the 396, swb cst, tach.

Re: 68 cst questions

I still have to go pick up the truck and all of the parts sometime next week, then I will post pics.

I want to do an original restoration on a truck like this. I only see two hard to find parts missing:
The air cleaner and the power steering reservoir that mounts on the driver side fender are missing. Does anyone have these items they want to sell, or know where they can be found?

Re: 68 cst questions

The cab lights were an option so your`s could be those. They were the tear drop style with a chrome housing. The common style from back then. They weren`t ICC required on 10,000+GVWs (dual rear 1t) until `69 so the ones offered were more of a generic accessory, like ventshades, than a factory-designed item.

actually tim, I'm not sure about 67, but I know they were in fact required in 68 when you got DRW... side markers and rear id lights too.

Re: 68 cst questions

I finally got a chance to get the truck. It is all apart and the body has been stripped so there is not much to look at, but I do have a pic of the spid.

Thanks for all of the comments and info on the truck. I can hopefully start work on it soon doing a full restoration, and taking more pics along the way.
