Powder coating Question
Has anyone every heard of someone powder coating a vehicle? if so any pictures or information. Someone was telling me this can be done. I have powder coated many smaller parts and in my opinion is the only way to go. A couple of pics of my 67 c10 swb frame fresh from the powder coating. Before I begin to put her back together again...

If you are talking about the body of a car or truck, forget it. Powder coat requiers that the metal be blasted and bare. If you want the body straight you need filler (bondo). Fillers do not like heat. Most powders need to cure at 400 degrees for 10 min...filler is not going to like that... much!
Now , any bare metal can be powder coated and cooked in the oven...but it will only look as good and straight as the metal that was coated.

And if you ever need touch-up you're screwed. You'd have to re-coat the whole piece.

There was an article in Hot Rod a while back where they built a 70's Camaro and they had the body stripped and then had it powder coated instead of a painted on sealer. I believe there theory was that the powder can reach behind panels and inside areas that paint could not reach. I do not remember which issue, I just recall the article. I do remember them mentioning how the heat that's required to melt the powder can cause the panels to warp and also some of the factory lead filler melted and ran out of some places. After the powder coating they performed the body work and painted it as normal, they just used the powder coating as a sealer/primer.

I went on a field trip to the Kinze farm equipment plant in IOWA and the owner built his daughter a jeepish looking car and powder coated it. He has the ability and the ovens to do it in since they powder coat their huge grain wagons. It looked pretty good.
