muncie speedometer

i have a muncie 4 speed and the speedometer is not working
i have lubed the cable and replaced the driven gear
but when it still didnt work i looked down the whole and the drive gear appears to be pushed to far onto the shaft(towards front of car)
is it possible to do this or is there a stop
the old gear was had 2 badly stripped teeth and 1 tooth on either side of them that was worn heavily but all other teeth appeared to be perfect

please help my parents wont let drive till i fix
if you need any more info reply or send me a message

Re: muncie speedometer

The Muncie parts illustration shows a snap ring ahead of the speedometer gear.

Is your gear plastic or steel?

Re: muncie speedometer

thanks a bunch for the quick reply

the drive gear is metal
the driven gear is plastic

i think that it chewed the old gear up because it is only engauging 1 tooth on the end of th drive gear
