I'd give it a shot. I picture some SS woven/welded wire. Maybe .375"-.5" hole size?
Could go perforated? Or were you thinking about something more exotic? Jay

Not sure if I would just find a sheet of mesh or maybe have something laser cut at work. Still trying to decide but it wont be real flashy however I do it. Any ideas?

Re: do-it-yourself 69-70 inner grille?
That's an idea to consider. I never was too crazy with the flimsy plastic they used on the inner grill for these trucks.
The only problem with removing it is tha it leaves some larger than normal openings where you can see the radiator etc. I have both GMC and a Chevy and both of the grills are out at this time. I'll be keeping an eye out for any suggestions. |

Re: do-it-yourself 69-70 inner grille?
I know that LMC has a billet insert for sale. The speed grille idea is interesting. I don't like (personally) the flame designs and such that are being offered and seen on late-model trucks, especially for the '69-70's as in insert.
I would like to see a billet insert that has vertical bars, instead of the horizontal ones, just for kicks. Maybe an egg-crate billet design would mimic the original plastic insert, yet be different. I know the cost of such would be much higher than a straight-bar billet insert. Tube grill insert, anyone? Maybe one done with 1/4-inch stainless bars would be different enough. I have thought of painting my insert to coordinate it with my wheels and interior....red. Think of seeing a '32 Ford grille with the bars in red and the shell in black, with a thin stainless bead between the bars and the shell. Hey, it's just an idea.
