Wrecked my '85 Chevy

The build up can be seen here

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=217397

I wrecked my truck tonight. I wasn't hurt, all I got was a little cut from a piece of glass.I was traveling on a state highway when I came to a patch of ice. The wind was blowing hard enough to where I noticed I had to fight it to keep the truck straight. As soon as I hit the ice it blew the truck across the road and into the ditch and rolled 1 time. Although it was only 1 roll, the truck is way beyond repair. I believe the frame/drivetrain is still ok, but the body is trashed. I had over 20,000 in this truck and I doubt I get anything from insurance because it was ice that caused it.

I will be starting some for sale ads in the classified section. If you see something here check the ads, I'm parting it out.

Re: Wrecked my '85 Chevy

I know how it feels man, I wrecked my 87 in july and had around 12K tied up in it and insurance only gave me $1500 for it. It's enough to make ya wanna throw up... Parting it will get you more of your investment back. I let mine go, and now wish I hadn't. Glad you're ok!...

Re: Wrecked my '85 Chevy

First of all, I know how you feel man. I rolled my all time favorite truck which was a 76 K10 Bonanza back in 1990. Nothing left of it. My frame was even bent and twisted after it rolled 7 times. It SUCKS!!!

The good news is that you weren't hurt too bad. The truck could be rebuilt. After spending the kind of time and money that you have already why don't you just find another body and rebuild it again?

It's a shame, and I feel your loss, but I'm glad that you're okay. ...Joe

Re: Wrecked my '85 Chevy

Look around for customized trucks, similar to yours if possible, for sale, and get written prices on them. Submit the list with any extra information to your insurance company. They should increase what they give you based on "market value". I did this several years ago with a '75 camaro, and the insurance upped the payment from $950 initial offer, to $2500. And my car wasn't nearly as customized as your truck.
Like the others, it's good you are ok. Good Luck!!

Re: Wrecked my '85 Chevy

Man, that sucks! I feel your pain, as I wrecked my 84 a month ago on ice. Was going slow and tagged guardrail with thr front pass corner. Damage wasn't terrible, until someone else came along and smashed into the pass door/rocker. Had the whole cab/front end ready for paint in the spring. Glad to hear you are ok.

Guess you had your seat belt on. Sorry for your loss but as said glad to here you are OK. That is the main thing. By the way. To sell your parts on here you will have to be a paying member. Did not know if you knew that or not.

Re: Wrecked my '85 Chevy

#1 You're ok. Trucks can be rebuilt. Lucky for you these body's are pretty pleantiful still. I'm sure if you didn't have agreed value insurance your probably not going to get all your investment back on an insurance check. Even still, I'd buy what's left back from the insurance company when they total it. I know rust free bodies don't come easy out there, but you can find one and put it back on your chassis.

Some people are different about this type of thing, but I'd feel like if the truck was strong enough to save and protect me in a wreck I would rebuild it. Give it a second chance like it gave you to survive it. Kind of corny I guess but I'm kind of corny that way.
