Which Hood to Use?

I have a dilema of sorts. Due to the DD status of my '67 I pretty much have to acquire replacement body panels to strip and get straight while I continue to drive the truck. Once they're ready I spend a weekend swappin' them out. Yes, I know after all is said and done- I'll have most of the sheetmetal to put together another truck...but that's a whole separate topic.
My problem is my hood(s). The one on the truck is the original and is really straight except for the ding in the front. Being as I don't want to strip off the primer and paint while I still have to drive the beast- I don't know if there are more dents and dings that have been filled with bondo. The replacement hood I got is also quite straight, but after pulling off the front edge trim I see a couple large rot-through spots.

If ya'll were me would you try to pull out the dent in the hood currently on the truck and hope their isn't any additional damage - OR - would you patch in the leading edge of the replacement hood and continue prepping it for primer. Both pieces are perfectly salvageable.....just wondering which one would be easier to fix.

Re: Which Hood to Use?

I'd choose fixing the dented one over the rusty one.

Re: Which Hood to Use?

I have to agree, fixing that dent would be easier than fixing that rust.

You could always put the rusty one on while your fixing the dent and then swap the good hood back on.

Just a thought

Re: Which Hood to Use?

Yea fix that little dent. May be able to push some of it out from the back if the dent is near one of the small holes in the back side of the hood if not, then a stud gun is probably your best bet. Assuming you don't have a stud gun, I suggest finding a small body shop, have them pull the dent out [it wouldn't take long], then take it home and finish with filler and sanding.
