hard starting

My truck has a hard time starting for the first time of the day. It takes 5 or 6 tries of cranking and quite a few pumps of the gas pedal between them to get it fired up sometimes even starting fluid. After that it runs like a champ and purrs like a kitten and thorough out the day I can start it with a problem any suggestions?

Re: hard starting

This could be a lot of things Adjust Choke, bad fuel pump. timing advanced to far.leaks in carb gaskets. I would start in that order and fix one at a time
You might also check that you have a full 12 volts at the coil while it is cranking

Re: hard starting

What kind of carb. Might have a small seep in a gasket in fuel bowls that leaks out over time/night and the extra cranking is the fuel pump refilling the bowls.

Yep... This is the most common problem with morning startups barring any choke adjustments being off. Sits all night and has time to drain out. Plus, it's cold in the mornings so you have the double whammy... I've had mine do that before.
