Don't feel bad, I'm tryin to support a family of 8 and build my daily driver at the same time. I love tax return time. thats the only time I can afford upgrades this year its anew engine, last year rims, tires,& a tranny the year before that suspension. But little by little it gets done. It's not how much $$$ you have cuz no one ever has enough, it's what you do with it and what ya want in the end. there is no such thing as a finished project!

Yea I hear you. Ive built my 60 on the cheep, ebay, craigslist, friends,doing your own work ,and a lot of "horse trading ''. I plan on doing the same for my 73. I have to be realastic, I cant aford a "show truck" but I can build a clean daily driver .
Dont give up some times things fall into place, some times they just fall apart, but make it fun

in all honesty, i dont want a truck so nice that i cant do with it what was meant to be done with it - WORK.
You can spend thousands of dollars on a new paint job, but then what can ya do with it? All you can do is look at it. The only place i would spend larger amounts of money is the engine, tranny, wheels and tires. They get you going, pull the weight, etc. |

Well my trucks just a dailly driver and i just happen to have friends that would help me out in build things like the trans for not to much. and the rest is spare parts i had laying around but if i had it my way she would be sitting on the ground but well kinda cant (but dont worry one day ur truck will be done and ull injoy even more cause what u have done with it )

There are rare individuals who can do everything on any vehicle, from building a carb to setting up EFI, body work, to building a trans, nothing is too much or too difficult for a certain few. Fewer still can do it all very well, as opposed to just making it functional. Right now I am one of the guys who is trying to get the skill level up to the 'very well' area.
Im not bragging, it is out of necessity. I have very limited funds so I must do the majority of work myself. If you have a shop big enough to work in and store all the tools needed, that is a big plus. Not having the space to do it is the roughest, lived like that while I was in the USAF. Had to beg space from friends for garage time, luckily for me I had some great friends in the Charleston area. The other thing ya need is time, because a paint job wont get done in one weekend unless its utter crap. That being said, how nice do you want it to be? A show truck, a nice DD that doesnt move much, or a work truck that will move loads of firewood, pull trailers, and do anything else a truck is needed to do? If you dont have enough money to buy things, spread it out over a few months, get it piecemeal rather than all at once. Like spindles one month, springs the next. Cam and lifters, then valvesprings and a manifold the next. Learn to do as much yourself as you can, buying a book or tools is a great investment. An investment that pays you differently than a stock or bond, its an investment in you. Improving yourself and pushing your limits is how you get things done. Self improvement works with trucks and cars as well as it does with anything else. If you dont have the time, then you need to pay someone who does. If you dont have the space, then you are stuck with small projects. If you dont have the money nor the time, then you need to make time. Do you watch TV every night? You could have two nights a week where you work on the project and the family knows not to interrupt you. Doing it yourself has vastly more benefit to you than paying to have it done. Its called delayed gratification, and the feeling you get from doing the work yourself is awesome. The only thing holding you back is yourself, and possibly your wife..lol... |
