interior rear cab opinions?
After moving your gastank, what have you done to the rear of the cab to finish it? Has anybody used the roddoors rear cab cover? Any ideas and PICTURES would be appreciated. Thanks

speakerbox material works great!
The guy that did my interior had some speakerbox material. My interior is black, so it worked well. The stuff is a thick felt type material, so it streches and forms to the surface really well. We had already put sound deadener in it, so the stuff formed over the back of the cab really well, plus it moulded around the indentions that the tank was bolted too. It wasn't that expensive, but it's looks great!

because the stock seat doesnt fold down, your limited on what you can do. the best option is electronics i guess. if you get a modern seat then id use it for storage, tools ect.

I plan on using the Roddoors rear cab cover too .... but man, they are sure proud of their peices ... kinda expensive to be nothing more than molded ABS plastic. Sorry, didn't mean to crawl up on the soap box here.

Thanks for the replys. Yeah shane, roddoors prices are high. One reason I was looking for alternatives. I plan to use a dynamat type insulation. The carpet will cover the floor but if I insulate the rear I thougt the rear cab cover would be a good solution. Riles, I like the idea of just upholstering right over it. Do you think I could do that with vinyl to match my seatcovers? Or I guess I could cover the rear cab cover in vinyl? Just thinking out loud. Any other ideas are welcome.

I thought all factory seats would fold after taking the two bolts off the rear of seat and leaving the other two for a pivot. That is what I did to mine on my 68. It was a striped down version, radio delete, six w/3 on the tree.

My factory seat folds forward. I dunno if it is broken, or the previous owner modified it to fold. My gas tank is still back there, so it really dosne't need to fold forward.
In a old Classic Trucks issue i had, they had a series in which they restored a '68 CST. They put the gastank under the bed. In the cab, they boxed in the cab corners with plywood, and made a platform on the cab floor. Then they covered everything with carpet, and set a storage tray out of a '90's Chevy truck on the platform.

Good ideas. I like the storage tray idea. I have the 67 buckets with fold down center so the tray could be at that level with access through the center. What did the tray look like. Anyone know the dimentions? I will have to go junkyarding.

The tray had a storage box on the passenger side (for a jack?), and the rest of it was a maybe a 3" deep tray. It was about as wide as the back of the seat. I wish my scanner was working so i could scan the pic........

True, some seats folded, but most did not. seems the earlier ones that were stripped down got the folding one.
The trick of removing the bolt will work, however, if you have good threads on your seat, it'll rip the vinyl that covers all that hardwear. Also, the seat will have to lean on the back wall of the cab to stay upright, which is not a problem onless you are short...or untill the wife gets in to drive your rig. Once the seat is slid up, it reclines too. Another problem I found (the P.O. did this on the GMC) is the seat back will rub the arm rest on the door that is not opened, it did it so hard that it actually ripped the arm rest on the passenger side door. I found a 69 C/60 in a local yard that has a stock flip forward seat, in black un-torn vinyl...it looks real booring with no scroll patern, but I am thinking it may look better than the stupid indian blanket seat cover many of us are so familiar with. |
