Summit torque converter
My clutch bellcrank ripped apart the other day . Probably has something to do with the fact that its at a funky angle as its a small block in the big block position ( 2" rearward ) . Good for me I had another bellcrank sitting around. Anyway I pretty much decided to replace the CR 4 speed with a TH 350. Has anyone used one of summits 1800-2200 stall speed torque converters? I called the tech support at summit and they told me they are just repackaged B&M 2400 holeshot converters and if I needed any extra info I should contact B&M. Has anyone used one on our trucks. At $104 its a hard price to beat.

I havent tryed that one, or the B&M converters, so really couldnt comment. I run a TCI breakaway in the longhorn(adv stall 24-2800), & it flashes right to 2800 behind my 383. The converter was $190 a couple yrs ago. They also offer the verter with anti ballooning plates for nitrous(I think about $50-60 more). Good luck....crazyL

advertised stalls on inexpensive converters are not very accurate..so many things factor in the stall, its impossible to give a true stall number..things like: Torque(cam and compression) gear ratio, tranny, weight,Tire size all contribute to how the stall is achieved...on my truck I have a custom stall converter..when it was behind the hopped up 283, it would stall at 2100rpm...behind the 355 it stalls at 2600rpm and flashes at 2900..for a nonperformance set up the summit should work just fine.

What do it meant when you guys say a torque converter "flashes" at a certain rpm. Thanks

theres a second b4 the converter fully engages(for lack of the right word) the rpm surges a little higher than the normal stall..some racers time this flash to leave on..its usually a few 100 rpm above the advertised stall

I bought a Hughes 3000 stall from a swap meet guy for 40$ put it behind about 400 horse..not a problem. Before that I was looking at the Summit Converters an decided to go with the B&M, rather have a name-brand that specializes in tranny's. Only wanted to do it once.

Anyone here ever used a Vega converter. I remember using one behind a 400 horse small block with a TH400 in a 69 camaro . My first car 20 years ago. Slipped like hell up to 3500 RPM but once that thing caught it caught hard. Damned near ran it off the road first time I pulled it out of the shop and stomped the gas . Took a second to remember to let off the gas.

I just got the summit 2600-3200 converter in my truck.(as in about 6 hrs ago) Flashes to almost 4000RPM and slips like crazy, but that's what I was going for. Sure makes the truck launch off the line though(when i can get it to stick).
Don't know about long term, but it sure works good now. -Jesse
