Hello Everybody. This is my first post, anyways i have a 1980 gmc sierra and every time i got to start it i have to turn the steering wheel like a mad man for it to start.

Re: steering column problems
Hello, And welcome. Sounds like a ignition starter switch problem to me. shaking the wheel makes it contact and work. soon it will stop working at all if that is the problem. I have seen them do many strange things.

Re: steering column problems
It can be a pain. on my 86 i just took the two bolts loose that hold the column and it dropped enough for me to get to it and swapped them out. and i dont know if you know where it is but its on your steering column at the bottom near the firewall with a bunch of wires cant miss it looks like this
