Re: 02 Zo6 Corvette Rolling Chassis On Ebay, Good Deal?
My '01 Z06 was the most incredible driving car I've ever owned. It was like driving a go-cart. How it would handle with a brick on it, I can't say... The beauty of the Z06 was the 3200 lb curb weight and the aerodynamics. The power to weight ratio is fantastic.
That said, for a dropped short bed or 2wd dropped Blazer, I can't think of a better combination. Mine got 25 mpg on the road and never less than 18... If you want more power, you can go as far as your wallet will take you. There is a ton of great support/products to take these babies to 500 hp...

In my opinion it wouldn't be a very good deal for you. The motor/tranny combo itself is only worth about 3-4k at most. I doubt you'd be able to use enough of the chassis to justify paying 6-7k for it. Would be cool though if you were able to pull it off. Just seems like a lot of money though for basically some a-arms and shocks.

It would be an awesome project no doubt, but 10K is a high entry price.
Also, another thing to consider. Not only will you have to lengthen the frame, but also to torque tube and propeller shaft (since the tranny is in the back). I think your money could be spent better on something else. |

The stock C5 frame could be modified to fit but it would require alot of work. You would have to do something creative for the radiator support mounts, and not sure how you would do the bed mounts or cab mounts. So there would be a few things you would have to think. The torque tube needs to be extended but there are companies that will extend the tube and the driveshaft inside. Or you can just have a custom built tube frame to adapt all the C5 drivetrain and suspension built. That would probably be the easiest way. I know it can get expensive but we only live once so make it the best ride ever. That is what i am doing. Josh

Good luck and I hope you get it - It'll be a huge challenge and a huge money pit, but like Josh says, (at least for me) it would be something you could drive and have fun with for the rest of your life, if it's done right.

Re: 02 Zo6 Corvette Rolling Chassis On Ebay, Good Deal?
Don't just drop 10k on the fist one you see. I know it's exciting but there are better deals. I paid 5k delivered for mine and it came with the full hydro-formed chassis and only 40k miles. Sure it wasn't a Z but are some shocks, sway-bars, heads, and brakes worth 5k? I say not the factory offerings. Shop around. Find a wrecked C5 or C6. If you find a Z06 for the right price go for it. Just do some research before you dive in. And Good Luck!
Also, look into the insurance auto auctions like IAAI and Copart. That's where these guys get these things and double their money on eBay. Last edited by Frizzle Fry; 02-26-2008 at 04:55 AM. |

Re: 02 Zo6 Corvette Rolling Chassis On Ebay, Good Deal?
A little pricey like others have said but it does come with planty or nice useable parts. I like the clever little brakets for the subframe to upper control arm brackets they built for moving the chassis around. If I had unlimited funds i may jump on it and sell what I didnt use to recoupe some funds as the frt suspension and engine would be all I needed.
