Re: 700R4 vs. T5
i can tell you from experience,
had a 71 gmc longbed with a 350 and a 3 speed stick. what a dog. even cruising on the highway was a chore. just got a 66 with a t5 in it. huge difference. 350 engine and all, cruising on the highway is peaceful now. its got all the stock linkage in it. i have a bench seat and the shifter works just fine. mine is from a 1500 series chevy truck. not sure of the year. if you need me to i can snap some shots of it on the lift. show you how it's installed. as for going with the 700r4, let me just say that from being in the auto repair industry i dont recommend them. unles they are built to the hilt with good quality parts they break or wear out real fast. although i havent seen one with the new constant pressure valve body from tci yet. the problem with the 700 and 200's is that if the shift cable isnt properly adjusted you can easily burn up lots of stuff. the new valve body they have eliminates this problem. but you cant buy it installed in a trans. so you have to buy it and install it. i think the valve body is around 300 bucks or so. it'll cost you alot more to add the automatic trans than the stick. the sticks an easy swap. and the stick will last ten times longer than the auto in my opinion. |

Holy crap KD!!! You're in Rexburg! I'm in Boise! You do realize that I have to kill you now, right? I was enjoying being the only guy in Idaho with a bagged 60's Chev! Maybe mine's still lower.
