Leaking speedo drive, TH-350
I need to know how to seal a speedo drive in a TH 350. It is driving me crazy. Put new O ring on and still leaks. Also what is the tooth count for a speedo drive gear for 3.73 rear end? I need that too, the one I have in is for 2.73's and its way off. It was all I had at the time. Any help is greatly appreciated folks.

Watch away gman! The truck hasn't been out of the garage since Thanksgiving and I knew then it had some seeping going on. Today I was putting my brace on for the power brakes I dropped a bolt and went around the side to retrive it and noticed gobs of tranny fluid on the floor under the truck. The only places I can see fluid coming from is the speedo drive and a slight drip out of the rear seal which were resealed early last year with less than 1500 miles put on it. I know I did it all right cause I did everything the same way I've done for years and have some of my and my dads vehicles that have 10,000's of thousands of miles and no leaks. Maybe I got crap seals or something, but it has to be fixed none the less. Hope someone can tell us the trick that some ol man told them when they were young or something.

i DID have the same problem. i changed everthing trying to stop it. the final thing i changed was the gear itself. that stopped the leak for me. i checked the o.d. of the gear i had verses the gear i put in and the one that was leaking was smaller,it may have been worn. but i no longer have the problem.
let me know if it works for you mrmagoo |

You need a new bullet to stop the leak. Go to a tranny shop and buy one for a few bucks. I don't know how cold it is where you are but it's cold here so I recently paid $40 to have it changed. No more leak!

70c10,
Sorry, but what do you mean by a bullet?

will work.I also went and got a good rubber o-ring from Chevy and that seems to have done the trick so far 10k miles later and no leak.

Stano - When you replaced your rear seal did you put a redi-sleeve on the shaft? If a groove is worn in the shaft it will leak again.

No groove on the shaft or yoke, so I don't think that is the prob I'll check again though. I do need the proper drive gear for my speedo to be right and I will try new o-rings again too! I may have messed it up installing somehow! Thanks If anyone else has more ideas please pass em on. I am always willing to learn something new.
